EMDR Therapy

Sometimes, it’s just difficult moving on from the past.

Perhaps there’s an incident or an entire period that has a powerful charge when you remember it.

Maybe you had a nasty breakup from which you just can’t seem to move on. You didn’t see it coming, and now it’s rocked your confidence to where you’re having trouble trusting your own decisions.

You’ve started to believe, “I cannot trust my judgment,” and it’s holding you back from new relationships.

Or perhaps you have a history of sexual assault or abuse and find yourself triggered by men, topics related to sex, or smells or sounds that remind you of the incident.

But there’s hope: We can desensitize those triggers and lessen the effect of these traumatic disturbances.

I know there’s a lot at stake…

… if you don’t get the resolution and emotional freedom you’re looking for:

Being triggered by your boss’s tone of voice at work or feedback from your partner…

Suffering through disturbing nightmares…

Worrying excessively about bad things that happened to you as a child…

Isolating yourself more and more from friends…

Feeling trapped in your own body…

All these can have negative effects at home, at work, or in your social life.

Here’s where I can help.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) uses your body’s natural adaptive processes to heal from trauma, anxiety, depression, and more. Through EMDR, you will learn how to regulate your nervous system and reprocess incidents that your body hasn’t been able to move past on its own.

We’ll start by assessing whether you’re a good candidate for EMDR. If you are, I’ll take down some of your history, teach you some exercises to help you regulate your nervous system, and then collaborate with you to determine what to target and in what order.

We’ll then move to reprocessing the event, which involves installing new, positive thoughts and bodily sensations in place of previous negative ones. Some of these positive cognitions include things like “I am/can be healthy” or “I now have choices” to replace prior negative beliefs like “I am permanently damaged” or “I am powerless/helpless.”

Each stage of this process can last several sessions, depending on your history, current supports, and your nervous system.

After completing all the EMDR phases, you will probably experience relief from symptoms caused by the underlying issue – e.g., anxiety, depression, somatic symptoms, flashbacks, panic attacks, and more.

In addition to treating mental health issues, EMDR can help those struggling with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS) by re-working neural pathways triggered by chemical hypersensitivities and causing you to react to chemicals found in everyday items. If you are suffering from Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, please call, text, or email me to find out more!

Experience great relief and hope by addressing the roots of your issues!
