Mental Health Therapist in San Diego, CA

Helping you Find Guidance, Direction, Stability, and Purpose

At North Star Therapy, we believe that distance should never hinder you from receiving the support and guidance you deserve. While our physical location is nestled in the heart of San Diego, our reach extends far and wide, embracing clients from all corners of California. Led by Gina Metcalf, LCSW, our mental health therapist North Star Therapy has been a beacon of healing, specializing in empowering adult women to navigate the complexities of life.

Our mission is clear: to help you break free from the grip of anxiety, depression, trauma, and codependency, unlocking the potential that lies within you.

Why Choose North Star Mental Health Therapist?

The #1 thing I hear on consultation calls from people who have been in therapy previously and didn’t have an amazing experience is that they feel like they just talked the whole session and their therapist didn’t say anything back. This is not me!!! I’m a fun, modern, interactive mental health therapist who gives feedback and is super engaged in sessions. Also, my secret sauce is that I help clients do a personal boundary assessment at the beginning of our work together so that you have immediate tools to use after our first session I have also found sequencing therapy this way and teaching these concepts early on allows clients to progress more quickly when we go deep.

Mental Health Therapist, Dr. Gina Metcalf

Gina Metcalf

Owner, LCSW

Hey there, I’m Gina Metcalf, your go-to mental health therapist on this exciting journey. At the crossroads of my 30-something years, life’s taught me a lot – and I’m here to share every bit of that wisdom with you.

I used to chase the thrill of new horizons, living life in places like Australia, Costa Rica, and across Europe. The world was my playground, but something was missing. Fast forward, and now my passion’s channeled into guiding you through your personal odyssey of healing and growth.

Let’s cut to the chase – I’m not your typical therapist. Authenticity is my jam, and yeah, I might let a cuss word slip in our sessions. Why? Because life’s messy, and being real is the only way I roll. We’re all beautifully flawed, and trust me, you won’t find any judgment here.

Here’s the deal: my rebel spirit isn’t just about flouting conventions – it’s about connecting with you on a deeper level. I’ve walked my own path of growth and self-discovery, and now I’m fully committed to walking it with you. Together, we’ll tackle your hurdles, smash through barriers, and uncover the strength you never knew you had.

Insights from Fellow Colleagues

Gina has such a calming presence. She has mastered the art of calming the vagus nervous system. Her talents helped me gain greater control of the mind body connection. I was able to learn the art of guided meditation and slowly worked up to longer and longer periods of time in order to assist in decreasing my anxiety. At times, the mind acts out of habit and it took time and repeated practice to learn new habits. I prefer the bottom up approach when increasing my ability to control my nervous system. Gina's ability to find just the right guided meditations helped me overcome anxiety and learn a life-long habit that assists me in keeping my anxiety in check and continue to be successful in my daily functioning in both the home and work setting. I am also able to respond rather than react to my family members which was a huge improvement from before I met with Gina. Thank you Gina!

Rose C.

I have known and worked with Gina for many years, and she is one one of the best therapists I know. She has a warm and relaxed energy that you notice right away. She has a way of making everyone feel comfortable in her presence. What I have loved most about Gina is that she is real. Her clinical skills are effortless, and is just naturally a skilled clinician. She is one of the most competent therapists I've worked with when it comes to trauma and codependency. She's one of the few that I would trust with my own clients.

Andrea Y.

Gina is my go to referral therapist. She's a wonderful listener and skilled practitioner in healing trauma. Her gentle, yet strong approach has the potential to benefit anyone who sees her. She can connect authentically and deeply with those she serves and support folks in discovering their own inner knowing and sense of agency in the world.
